Probable cause found in Hancock shooting

The case of a Hancock woman charged with shooting her husband in the leg last month will proceed to Washington County Circuit Court, court records state.

Washington County District Judge Ralph H. France II, during a preliminary hearing Tuesday, found probable cause to send to Circuit Court the case against Beverly L. Zimmerman, 57, of 14504 Reel Road, records state.

Zimmerman was charged with first- and second-degree assault and carrying a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection with a May 20 shooting at her home, records state.

France ordered Zimmerman to have no contact with her husband, Ronnie Zimmerman, to not enter her residence and to receive inpatient psychiatric or psychological treatment, records state.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department gave the following account in charging documents:

Ronnie R. Zimmerman, 58, was shot in the upper thigh during an evening dispute at the residence. Beverly Zimmerman was charged with shooting him with a .22-caliber revolver, which deputies found inside the home.

Zimmerman was treated at the Winchester (Va.) Medical Center for a thigh wound.
