Darwin E. Mounts, 80

MARCH 25, 1924-JUNE 6, 2004

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Darwin E. Mounts, 80, of Crystal River, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Cypress Cove Care Center, Crystal River.

Born March 25, 1924, in Princeton, Ind., he was the son of the late Edgar U. and Esther Angle Mounts.

He was a retired molder for Pangborn-Carborundum Corp. in Hagerstown.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army-Air Force.

He was a member of Crystal River United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Blanton-Thompson American Legion Post 155 of Crystal River, West Senior Citizen Club of Citrus County and Fraternal Order of Police, Thomas Pangborn Lodge 88 of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jean Chapman Mounts; two daughters, Donette Sines of Hagerstown and Lauri Hokanson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, James Mounts of Inverness, Fla., and Kevin Mounts of Hagerstown; three sisters, Janetta Wilson of Columbus, Ind., Delores Smith and Martha Keown, both of Centertown, Ky.; two brothers, Joe Mounts of Alabama and Kenneth Mounts of Evansville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


Services were held Friday, June 11, in Homosassa Springs, Fla. Burial was in Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa Springs.

Charles C. Carson, 63

SEPT. 2, 1940-JUNE 14, 2004

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Charles C. "Babe" Carson, 63, of 14504 Buena Vista Drive, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital due to a massive heart attack.

Born Sept. 2, 1940, in Fairfield, Pa., he was the son of Lulu A. Herring Carson of Waynesboro and the late Charles E. Carson.

He was a 1960 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was employed as a truck driver by ISP Mineral Inc. in Blue Ridge Summit for 30 years.

He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard in Waynesboro.

He had been a member of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, Blue Ridge Summit.

He was a member of Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Cascade American Legion Post 239 and Blue Ridge Sportsman's Club.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy L. Harbaugh Carson; one daughter, Angela S. Bailey of Manassas, Va.; one son, Daniel L. Carson of Fairfield; one sister, Carrie V. Benchoff of Blue Ridge Summit; one brother, John E. Carson of Fayetteville, Pa.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. William Hammann will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard E. Rice, 63

DEC. 29, 1940-JUNE 13, 2004

INWOOD, W.Va. - Richard E. Rice, 63, of Inwood, and formerly of Fort Worth, Texas, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his home.

Born Dec. 29, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Roland and Ernestine Mollencop Rice.

He was a graduate of Ohio State University.

He retired in 1994 from Miller Brewing Co. after 25 years of service as human resources manager.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and received several military commendations.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Conner Rice; one son, Andrew Rice of Columbus; two stepdaughters, Megan Conner of New York City and Cindy Verdeck of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Robert Rice of Columbus; and one niece.

A memorial service and burial will be held in Sulphur Springs, Ohio.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401; or to the Ohio State Marching Band.

James L. Coffman Sr., 61

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - James Lee Coffman Sr., 61, of Mercersburg, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his residence.

Born Feb. 9, 1943, he was the son of the late Vernon Coffman Sr. and Mary Hensley Coffman.

He was a minister in the Hagerstown mission for the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Joanne Smith Coffman; one daughter, Julie Y. Myers of Mercersburg; three sons, James Lee Coffman Jr. of Ohio, Joel S. Coffman of Chambersburg, Pa., and Daniel R. Coffman of Hagerstown; two sisters, Emma Mae DeShong of Greencastle, Pa., and Marcella McFadden of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one brother, Vernon H. Coffman Jr. of Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Supreme Council of the House Of Jacob, Harrisonville, Pa. Bishops K. Paul Bowers and James Z. Terrell will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, St. Thomas, Pa.
