Area roundup - Orioles blank Fayetteville in doubleheader sweep

FAYETTVILLE, Pa. - Scott Frye and Joe Hart each pitched a shutout to help Brunswick to a doubleheader sweep over Fayettville on Saturday.

Brunswick won the first game 5-0 and the second, 12-0.

Frye scattered seven hits and struck out seven in the opener, while Hart fired a one-hitter and fanned seven in the five-inning second game.

Wayne Toms and Gerrad Talkington each had three hits for the Orioles (14-1, 13-1) in the first game. Jayson Mobley had three hits in the second game, while Andy Maught, Kevin Goode and Talkington each added two. John Mangold hit a grand slam.

Brunswick opened up a three-game league lead over second-place Fayetteville (11-5). The Orioles will host Hagerstown this afternoon at 2, followed by a matchup with Waynesboro at 4:30.


Hagerstown PONY League

Jeter 9, F&M 6: Kevin Kocsis, Tommy Evans, Brian Leferte and Allen Sandberg each had two hits to lead Jeter. John Mason had two hits for F&M.

Hagerstown Colt League

BJ's Custom Creations 12, FOP 2: Josh Humelsine pitched a four-hitter and had three RBI for BJ's, while Ryan Chaney and Ben Walzl each had three hits and Steve Munson and Jeremy Martin each had two hits. Brian Powers had two hits for FOP.

BJ's Custom Creations 9, Elks 3: Walzl and Martin each had two hits for BJ's. Danny Olson had two hits for Elks.

Hagerstown Palamino League

UAW 7, Dynamark 6: Wayne Rumbaugh had two hits and scored the winning run for UAW, while Josh Daniels and Justin Jones each had two hits and Keith Fowler had two RBI.

Senior Interleague

Jeter 12, Homewood 1: Mike Edwards and Correy Farris each had three hits, while Will Ryanson, James Scott and Steve Brossard each added two for Jeter.

Valley Little League

Norm Scott Drywall 14, BJ Builders 4: Gregg Hoffman and Matthew Redenbo each had four hits for Norm Scott Drywall.

Home Run Derby: Aaron Schroyer and Andrew Bittner, both from Post 211, won the home run contests held at Valley Little League. Schroyer won the 11-year-old division, while Bittner was first among 12-year-olds.

Federal Little League

Rotary 15, American Legion 11: Justin Mills homered twice and Michael Townes had four hits to lead Rotary. T.J. Nelling had three hits, while Tyler Presgraves, Matt South and Austin Holly each added two in the win. Presgraves homered. Connor Spessard and Alex Shearer had three hits each, while Dusty Thompson and Hunter Fisher added two each for American Legion.

National Little League

AMVETS 20, Western Maryland 5: Daniel Williams had three hits, including two inside-the-park home runs, and drove in nine runs to lead AMVETS. Michael Horchner also had an inside-the-park homer in the win.

Hancock Little League

Astros 10, Pirates 9: Adam Younker had 12 strikeouts and Travis Barthalow had three hits to lead the Astros. Josh Wright added two hits and Nick Harvey homered in the win. T.J. Leedy struck out 10 for the Pirates.

Astros 10, Tigers 2: Harvey and Tanner Dobrzanski each had three hits and Younker added two for the Astros. Joe Lashley led the Tigers with three hits.

American Little League

Funkstown 8, Thompson Concrete 0: Billy Springirth had three home runs and Ryan Springirth had two hits to lead Funkstown. Travis Cline homered for Thompson Concrete.

West End Little League

Stags 13, VFW 6: Ryan Bean led Stags with two hits. Kenny Kitchen had two hits for VFW.

Coca-Cola 15, Moose 9: Dwight Boward and Sean Koontz each had three hits to lead Coca-Cola. Boward homered.

Conococheague Little League

Byer's Market 18, Taylor's Trucking 6: Zachary Lucas and Casey McKenrick each had five hits, Joey Sutch had four, Dustin Violet, Timber Jones, Tyler Shank and Steve Shoemaker each had three and Brad Banzhoff and Tevis Palmer added two each for Byer's.

Yankees 18, RJ Mason 8: Stephen Flessner had two hits for the Yankees.

West End Minor League

Western Enterprise 10, St. Lawrence 8: Chad Randle, Travis Roussey, Devon Mellott, Austin Nave, Bryce Karn and Chad Bell each had two hits for Western Enterprise. Randy Faith, Evante Naylor, Roberto Peralta and Robert Richards had two hits each for St. Lawrence.

Clear Spring Minor League

BJ's Custom Creations 17, Ernst Market 6: Riley Lazich had three hits and Levi Bucher hit two home runs to lead BJ's. Evan McDonough and D.J. Naile each had two hits and Ben Cornwall homered in the win.

Smithsburg Cal Ripken

Scott's Speed Shop 8, Donnie's Plumbing 7: Aaron Mong, Cory Michael and Owen Ridenour each had two hits, while Mong and Michael combined for 16 strikeouts for Scott's. Justin Martin had two RBI, Justin Buckley had three RBI, Andrew Jeter had two hits and Tanner Castle had 10 strikeouts for Donnie's.

Wash. Co. Girls Softball

Reliable Home Furnishings 11, William Gower & Sons 10: Erica DiMercurio had three hits, including a home run, and Alex Penn and Emily Steiner each had three hits for Reliable. Emily Grimsley, Eryn Greene and Caroline Rosenthal each added two hits for Reliable. Chelsea Showe had two hits for Gower & Sons.
