John Munson demands road be added to repairs list

Washington County Commissioner John C. Munson yelled at the county's public works director on Tuesday and demanded that he make repairs to the pothole-lined Maugansville Road a priority.

Munson, who lives in Maugansville, expressed anger with Public Works Director Gary Rohrer during a County Commissioners meeting after Rohrer distributed a list containing about $1 million in priority road repair projects.

The list, which contains 25 projects, did not include Maugansville Road.

The roads on the list include Governor Lane Boulevard, Halfway Boulevard, Mount Aetna Road, Edgewood Drive, Western Maryland Parkway and Fountainhead Road.

Munson said he disagreed with the list and that at least one of the roads on it, Fountainhead Road, wasn't in bad shape.

"I want something done about it," Munson said. "I want this changed ... this is ridiculous, Gary."

At that point, Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook said the commissioners would not be discussing the issue at meeting, but Munson continued voicing his displeasure with Rohrer's list.

He told Rohrer he often receives complaints from residents and businesses about the condition of Maugansville Road.

"I'm going to stop taking their calls," Munson told Rohrer. "I'm going to give them your phone number at home."

Rohrer said that giving out his number would be fine and that he had an answering machine.

Munson said travelers on Maugansville Road have to "ride the center line" to dodge the potholes.

"I'm telling you, you got to do something," Munson said. "The road is trash."
