SALISBURY, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns got close, but they couldn't stay close long enough.Delmarva scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and added three more in the seventh as the Shorebirds ran away from the Suns 12-1 Wednesday in the South Atlantic League.
Suns starter Brian Wilson (0-2) took the loss, giving up two runs in five innings. But it was reliever Jesse English who allowed most of the damage by Delmarva.
English was tagged with all seven Shorebirds runs in the sixth, allowing four hits, two walks and hitting two batters.
Jarod Rine started the onslaught with a three-run double and Matt Houston added a two-run double later in the inning.
The Shorebirds (28-31) took a 2-0 lead in the third on Cory Harris' two-run homer.
Hagerstown (26-32) cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth when Jesse Schmidt singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Nate Schierholtz's base hit.
