Maugansville school to open in late 2006

A new Maugansville Elementary School is expected to open in December 2006 at 84 percent of capacity.

Washington County Board of Education officials gave the County Commissioners an update on the school project at a meeting Tuesday.

School board Chief Operating Officer William Blum said the projected enrollment for the new school is 535 students and it will have the capacity for 638 students.

By 2010, school officials anticipate the school will have an enrollment of 594 students.

Construction on the school is to begin in July 2005.

Emergency outfitting contracts awarded

Three companies on Tuesday received contracts to supply Washington County police and emergency service personnel with clothing designed to protect them from weapons of mass destruction and when responding to structure fires and rescues.

Mason Dixon Fire Equipment of Williamsport, Maryland Fire Equipment Corp. of Rockville, Md., and Red the Uniform Tailor of Lakewood, N.J., were awarded contracts totaling $39,619.

Grant money is paying for the purchases.
