Martinsburg election is today

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg voters will head to the polls today to elect three City Council members.Contested races are for two at-large seats and the Ward 5 seat. Polling sites will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Those seeking the two at-large seats are Councilmen Donald Anderson and Gregg Wachtel, along with challenger LaRue Frye.

Anderson has been a council member for 14 years. Wachtel served from 1992 to 1996 and since 2000. Both are Democrats.

Frye, the owner of a local bed and breakfast, is a Republican.

Mayor George Karos and three current council members - Ward 2 Councilman Richard Yauger, Ward 3 Councilman Max Parkinson and Ward 4 Councilman Roger Lewis - are running unopposed. All are Democrats.

Ward 5 Councilman and Glenville Twigg, a Democrat , is trying to add another term to his 14 years on the council. He is being challenged by Frank "Tex" Idoni, a Republican.

Ward 1 Councilman Chris Baker is not seeking re-election. The only person running for his seat is Republican Shari Knadler Persad.
