A 26-year-old Chambersburg man was killed and another man was injured in a one-vehicle accident Saturday night on Warm Spring Road in Hamilton Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Dominic P. Sanders of 546 S. Main St., Apt. 2, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:23 p.m. accident, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said. The cause of death was multiple blunt-force trauma, he said.

Shawn Johnson, 27, of Riddle Street in Chambersburg, a passenger in the car, was flown to York (Pa.) Hospital, police said. He was listed in critical condition Sunday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said Sanders was driving a 1984 Cadillac Eldorado south at excessive speed when he lost control of the Cadillac about a quarter of a mile south of Lehman Road after passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

The car skidded sideways into a utility pole, causing a power outage, police said. Conner said the driver's-side door struck the pole.

Sanders was not wearing a seat belt, Conner said. There will be no autopsy, he said.

"The pole was basically cut in half," said Allegheny Power spokesman Guy Fletcher.

About 62 customers in the immediate area were without power until 4:30 a.m. as a repair crew waited for the wreckage to be cleared and for police to complete their investigation before replacing the pole.
