Man dies while water-skiing

McHENRY, Md. - A Parkton, Md., man died while water-skiing at Deep Creek Lake Friday night, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.James C. Merritt, age 51, was water-skiing behind a 20-foot Bayliner powerboat when he collapsed at approximately 7:45 p.m., police said.

The boat was operated by his daughter. His wife and daughter's boyfriend also were aboard the vessel, police said. Merritt was skiing with two skis and had been upright for approximately five minutes before he collapsed, police said.

He was taken to Garrett County Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead at approximately 9 p.m. Friday, police said. His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy, police said.
