Destination Imagination team advances

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - At least one team from Washington County Public Schools has advanced to a second round of competition in the Destination Imagination Global Finals today.The Emma K. Doub Elementary School team will compete today.

"They're looking forward to it," team manager Jean Cooper said Friday afternoon by phone from Tennessee.

Cooper said the team had a good showing in the Instant Challenge competition Friday morning.

The Instant Challenge requires teams to solve a problem without having prior knowledge of the question.

The competition is held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Destination Imagination is one of the world's largest creativity and problem-solving programs for children. Every year, thousands of students from 47 states, 15 countries and Canadian provinces participate, according to the Destination Imagination Web site.

Clear Spring Middle School and Smithsburg High School also have teams in the Global Finals.

Representatives from those teams did not return calls Friday.
