Joseph A. Keefer, Sr.


KEEDYSVILLE - Joseph Alvin "Joe" Keefer Sr., 75, of 3528 Chestnut Grove Road, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md.

Born Oct. 19, 1928, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Daniel Alvin and Alice Catherine Keefer.

He was a former carpenter with the Carpenter's Union in Washington, D.C.

He was of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Greenwalt Keefer, whom he married Oct. 19, 1950; four daughters, Brenda J. Conner of Boonsboro, Mary C. Stone of Brunswick, and Deborah M. Woods and Joann A. Nick, both of Keedysville; two sons, Joseph A. Keefer Jr. of Pennsylvania, and Robert L. Keefer of Keedysville; two sisters, Dorothy Dinterman of Point of Rocks, Md., and Marlene McDonald of Knoxville, Md.; stepmother, Goldie G. Keefer of Kingwood, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Heflin.

Services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Emma Price will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Russell M. Shingleton Sr.


Russell Melvin Shingleton Sr., 93, of 13551 Paradise Church Road in Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born in Opequon, Va., he was the son of the late Charles Melvin and Annie Gertrude Wolford Shingleton.

He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 30 years.

He attended First Christian Church.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 694.

He is survived by two sons, Russell M. Shingleton Jr. of Carlisle, Pa., and George C. Shingleton of Hagerstown; one sister, Myrtle V. Kline of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.




David J. Wright Sr.


BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - David John Wright Sr., 67, of Bunker Hill, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at his home.

Born Aug. 3, 1936, in Herkimer County, N.Y., he was the son of the late Glen Wright and Tessa Kraszewski Wright Mathews.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of American Legion Post 92 of Waterville, N.Y., and the VFW of West Winfield, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne T. Grimmer Wright; three daughters, Darlene A. Smith of Little Falls, N.Y., Dianne N. Chuff of Groton, Conn., and JoAnn T. Wright of Bunker Hill; four sons, David J. Wright Jr. of Inwood, W.Va., Donald M. Wright of Pasadena, Md., and Thomas A. Wright and Timothy J. Wright, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one sister, Margaret M. Kornitas of Perth Amboy, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Phillips; and one brother, Arthur F. Mathews.

Services and burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Rachael B. Gelsinger


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rachael B. Gelsinger, 86, of United Towers, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Manorcare Health Services.

Born April 30, 1918, in Williamson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Annie Christman Barnes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Gelsinger Sr., in 1978.

She had been employed as a machine operator by the former Grayline Hosiery in Chambersburg for 37 years.

She was a member of Spirit of Christ Community Church, where she worked for the Bible release program.

She was a member of Chambersburg Senior Center, and a volunteer at Camp Joy-El and the former Caledonia Manor.

She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine Barnhart of Shady Grove, Pa., and Shirley Mills of Rockhill Furnace, Pa.; two sons, Marvin Gelsinger of Chambersburg, and Gerald Gelsinger of Shady Grove; four grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Charles Tolbert will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald R. Frederick


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Donald R. Frederick, 82, of 67 Chadwick Drive, and formerly of Bedford County, Pa., died Friday, May 28, 2004, at his home.

Born May 1, 1922, in Loysburg, Pa., he was the son of the late David Calvin and Jesse E. Lee Frederick.

He was a graduate of Northern Bedford High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1962 after 20 years of service.

He was of the Brethren faith.
