Bulldogs softball, Cougars baseball eliminated

VIENNA, W.Va. - Martinsburg's softball team lost twice Thursday and was eliminated from the West Virginia Class AAA state tournament.

The Bulldogs were held to two hits by Jenna Markham in a 10-0 loss to Cabell Midland. Markham struck out 13.

Parkersburg South's Jill Stephens did even better, no-hitting Martinsburg as the Bulldogs fell, 4-1. Stephens struck out 15.


University 16, Jefferson 4

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Adam Kessel and Gage Levac each had two hits and an RBI, but Jefferson fell to the hot University bats in the West Virginia Region II championship game.

Jefferson finished 22-14, the 28th consectutive season the Cougars have won 20 or more games.

Mercersburg Academy 2 Chestnut Hill 0

MALVERN, Pa. - Josh Edgin struck out 10 for the Blue Storm in a victory over Chestnut Hill in an Pennsylvania Private School Tournament contest.

MALVERN, Pa. - Matt Englehart hit two home runs to lead Mercersburg over Malvern Prep in the second round. Alex Malucci and Josh Edgin each had two hits.


HCC's Hoffman plays on

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Hagerstown Community College golfer Jesse Hoffman shot a 7-over-par 79 Thursday and stands in 103rd place at the NJCAA Division II golf championships held at Palm Valley Golf Club. Hoffman's three-day total is 27-over 243.


Brunswick 3, Fayetteville 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Scott Frye pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Brunswick Orioles as they defeated the Fayetteville A's (6-2).

Jayson Mobley had two hits, including a three-run homer, and Steve Goode had two hits for the Orioles (8-0).

Ruritan 11, Bowman Sales 8: T.J. Cooper, Joe Bowers and Tyler Braithwaite had two hits for Ruritan. Geo Perez, John Combs and Tyler Sprigler had two hits for Bowman.

Jeter Paving 7, BAAA 6: Ryan Wilson, Andrew Bentley and Alex Wine each had two hits for Jeter. Mike DeBarge, Alan Beard, Danny Stitely and Mike Coe had two hits each for BAAA.

Chewsville Lions 8, Cascade American Legion 2: Billy Scubert had two hits for the Lions, while Kevin Norton struck out eight. Mason Minnich had two hits for Cascade.

National Minor League

AMVETS 16, Western Maryland 11: Johnnie Jordan had two hits for AMVETS. Joey Tibbs had two hits for Western Maryland.

Gehr 3, Gibney's 1: Brandon McCauley pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and added two hits while both Shane Maldoon and Chris McSherry had two hits for Gehr. Jason Hammond had both hits for Gibney's.

Funkstown Legion 16, Antietam Fire Company 5: R.J. Winston had three hits, including a home run, while Brenden Keefer also homered for Funkstown. Bret Rowland and Zack Sines had two hits for Antietam.

Hagerstown Colt League

UAW 8, Steffey & Findlay 3: Brandon Rohrer pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and Aaron Leggett drove in four runs to lead UAW. Adam Dellinger added two hits in the win.

Halfway Little League

Gehr 3, Gibney's 1: Brandon McCauley pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead Gehr. Brandon McCauley, Shane Maldooon and Chris McSherry each had two hits. Jason Hammond had two hits for Gibney's.

Lions 18, Valley Storage Bins 8: Henry Gigeous had four hits, while Kyle Crist and Brett Allen each homered for Lions. Aaron Stotelmyer had two hits, including a home run, for Valley.

Sharpsburg Little League

OK Plumbing 20, Keedysville Ruritan 0: Alex Wetzel had four hits for OK Plumbing, while Brittany Ingram, Gunner Ingram, Jonathan Williams, Byron Henderson, Danny Morris and Jenna Pepple all had three hits and Caleb Harrington, Aaron Morris, Gregory Koepp and Madison Ingram each had two hits. Ashton Binkley had two hits for Keedysville Ruritan.

American Little League

Elks 4, Thompson Concrete 1: Jordan Hatfield pitched a two-hitter for Elks.

Thompson Concrete 5, FOP 3: Darrel Ward and Dustin Price combined on a two-hitter for Thompson Concrete, while Dustin Price added two hits.

Valley Little League

Total Lube Center 3, F&M Bank 1: Andrew Michaels had two hits and Ben Daniels struck out 14 for Total Lube Center.

Conococheague Little League

Post 202 13, Wolf 1: Alex Eckert homered and Nate Lowery and Trey Hanna had two hits for Post 202. Hannah pitched a one-hitter.

Maugansville Little League

Brewer's Saab 10, Ruritan 4: Brad Kiracofe had three hits and struck out 14 for Brewer's. Jordan Wivell, Ryan Cooper and Jake Bachtell each had two hits for Ruritan.

Federal Little League

Kiwanis 12, Alsatia 3: Elijah Benson, Christian Snyder, Jay Donoghue and Chuck Mellott had two hits each for Kiwanis. Tyler Barr had two hits and struck out 11 for Alsatia.

West End Little League

AFL-CIO 22, Western Enterprise 0: Aaron Stoner and Armando Cerda both had three hits, while John Saunders and Charlie Snyder both added two for AFL-CIO.
