Toll options considered

May 27, 2004

The State Highway Administration is considering the following options for toll booths along Interstate 81. Tolls are part of the I-81 Improvement Project. --Both directions of I-81 between the Potomac River and Conococheague Street in the Williamsport area. Drivers would pay tolls as they enter and leave Maryland near the West Virginia state line. High speed and cash toll lanes would be provided in both directions.

--Drivers would pay tolls southbound on I-81 between Showalter Road and State Line Road and northbound I-81 between the Potomac River and Conococheague Street. Under this option, only drivers entering the state would pay tolls, and high speed and cash toll lanes would be provided through both toll areas.

--Northbound I-81 between Showalter Road and State Line Road and southbound I-81 between the Potomac River and Conococheague Street would have tolls. This way, drivers leaving the state would pay tolls. High-speed and cash toll lanes would be provided through both toll areas.
