Murder suspect ordered held without bond

A Washington County District judge Wednesday ordered Azaniah "Azzy" Blankumsee, charged with murder in the shooting death of a Waynesboro, Pa., man in March, held without bond.Blankumsee, 26, address unknown, is charged in the March 14 shooting death of Jonathan Manuel Dennis, 19, at Washington Gardens Apartments.

He was apprehended Tuesday afternoon by officers from the Hagerstown Police Department and Maryland State Police as he stepped off a bus at the Greyhound terminal on Sharpsburg Pike.

He is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, carrying a concealed weapon, use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.

Blankumsee's Wednesday appearance in District Court was conducted over closed circuit television, with the defendant remaining at the Washington County Detention Center.

His lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Brian Hutchison, argued that bond should be set for Blankumsee, who he said would live locally if released.

Washington County Assistant State's Attorney John B. Dunlap said Blankumsee has a criminal record, is unemployed, single and has ties to New York.

District Judge Ralph H. France II ordered Blankumsee held without bond.
