Woman says man stole her change purse during walk



A woman walking to work near Valley Mall early Sunday was robbed of a change purse, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

Police said the woman was walking along Nursery Road near the railroad tracks near Valley Mall at about 5:45 a.m. when a man grabbed her change purse, knocked her down and ran north on the railroad tracks toward Hagers-town.

The robber is described as a black male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with his hair in corn rows and a small scar under his eye, police said. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray T-shirt, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on the robbery to call them at 301-791-3020.




Deputies respond to calls of thefts, vehicle damage



The following crimes were reported to the Washington County Sheriff's Department over the weekend, according to information provided by Sgt. Mark Knight:

On Friday:

  • Two stereos and a set of golf clubs were reported stolen from an Oldsmobile Cutlass and a Honda Civic parked in the 11000 block of Eastwood Court.

  • A window, valued at $100, was reported broken out of a Honda Prelude while it was parked in the 11000 block of Suffolk Drive.

  • A Ford truck window, valued at $100, was reported broken out while it was parked in the 21000 block of Horseshoe Lane.

  • A car's rear window and a taillight, valued at $500, were reported shot out while the vehicle was parked in the 15000 block of Falling Waters Road.

  • A purse was reported stolen from a person who was shopping in Deb's at Valley Mall.



On Saturday:

  • Molding on both sides of a Nissan Altima and some electric wires, valued at $500, were reported damaged while the car was parked in the 18000 block of Preston Road.

  • A bathroom at Byron Park in Williamsport was reported to have been spray-painted inside. Damage was estimated at $50.



On Sunday:

  • Tires were reported flattened on a 2001 Ford Explorer parked in the 100 block of Orchard Manor Drive in Boonsboro. Damage was about $300.

  • The windshield of a school bus was broken while the bus was parked in the 14000 block of Hicksville Road. Damage was about $300.

  • A Pioneer stereo, valued at $250, was reported stolen from a car parked in the 11000 block of Pin Oak Terrace.

  • A car was reported keyed while it was parked in the 100 block of Patrick's Court in Smithsburg.

  • A vehicle was reported broken into while it was parked in the 11000 block of Parkwood Drive and two umbrellas, a spotlight and a rescue hammer were reported stolen from the car.






City police respond to stolen car, injured bicyclist reports



The following crimes were reported to the Hagerstown Police Department over the weekend, according to information provided by Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. Curt Wood:

  • A green 1996 Jeep with West Virginia temporary registration was reported stolen from the 200 block of West Washington Street.

  • Someone dumped bricks, damaging some waterproofing items at a property in the 600 block of Washington Avenue.

  • A Galaxy CB radio and antenna were stolen from a Toyota, which was damaged while it was parked in the 300 block of Belview Avenue.

  • A dog bite report was filed for an incident at 221 Garlinger Ave.

  • An injured person report was filed when a bicyclist ran into a street sign while riding a bike in the 600 block of South Potomac Street.

  • A DVD player and money was reported taken from the 200 block of Fairgrounds Avenue.

  • A maroon 1998 Chrysler with Maryland registration LGF500 was reported taken from the 100 Block of North Mulberry Street.

  • Windows were reported broken out of a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Fairmeadow Boulevard.

  • A Sony camcorder, an X-box video game system, Motorola cell phones and several DVDs were reported stolen from a home in the 400 block of South Potomac Street.

  • Medication was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Noland Drive.

  • Tires were reported slashed on a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Jefferson Street.

  • Several rings were reported stolen from a home in the 500 block of Frederick Street.




    Injured motorcyclist discharged from hospital



    A motorcyclist injured in a wreck nearly two weeks ago has been discharged from Washington County Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.

    Beth Woodworth, 22, of 625 Summit Ave., in Hagerstown, was injured on May 12 after crashing her motorcycle on eastbound Interstate 70, Maryland State Police said.




    W.Va. man injured in head-on crash released from hospital



    A Berkeley Springs, W.Va., man who was taken to Washington County Hospital Saturday after his truck collided head-on with another truck has been discharged.

    A Washington County Hospital spokeswoman said Monday morning that Kenneth Fleegle, 19, of Old Farm Road, was discharged from the hospital.

    The crash occurred Saturday at about 10:10 a.m. in the 14700 block of Weller Road east of Hancock, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

    Fleegle was driving a 1990 GMC truck north on Weller Road, the sheriff's department said.
