Local roundup - Trojans advance in District 3 playoffs

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Irv Sleighter and Brian Hinkle combined to pitch a no-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as Chambersburg knocked off Garden Spot 6-0 in the first round of the PIAA District 3 Class AAA playoffs Monday night.

Sleighter pitched the first four innings, improving to 8-0, and fueled Chambersburg's three-run first inning with a two-run double.

Andy Carter paced the Trojans' 11-hit attack with three hits, while Jared Olson, Tyler Brown and Sleighter each had two.

Chambersburg (19-3) faces either Penn Manor or Dover on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.


Federal Little League

Kiwanis 9, Exchange 8: Christian Snider had two hits for Kiwanis. Alyssa Collier, Pat Salvagno and Josh Sines had two hits each for Exchange.

Maugansville Little League

Maugans Oil 6, Brewer's Saab 4: Mike Braithwaite, Brandon Glazer, Ryan Sword and Adam Trimmer had two hits each for Maugans Oil. Josh Henry and Alec Long had two hits each for Brewer's Saab.

Conococheague Minor League

R.J. Mason 10, Valley Storage 9: Brandon Iseminger was the winning pitcher for R.J. Mason. Casey Shank drove in four runs for Valley Storage.

West End Little League

Coca-Cola 17, AFL-CIO 7: Dwight Boward homered twice and had five RBI while Thomas Barrick had three hits and Matt Davis added two for Coca-Cola.

VFW 15, Stags 9: Casey Shifler had four hits, Kenny Kitchen added three, and Dustin Rowland and Cody Murray each had two for VFW. Shifler, Kitchen, and Rowland each homered.

West End Minor League

Reds 15, St. Lawrence 14: Josh Singleton had three hits and Colby Johnson added two for Reds. Sterling Rubeck and Wilberto Peralta had two hits each for St. Lawrence.

Middle School Division

D.M. Bowman 8, Cellular One 6: Jen Bowlus homered for Bowman. Bridgette Ringley had three hits and combined with Megan Long to pitch a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts for Cellular One.

Cellular One 14, Ernst Market 0: Jaime Donato and Katie O'Leary each had three RBI while Brittany Bowman had two hits and Bridgette Ringley and Tiffany Root combined to pitch a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Cellular One.

Nutter's Ice Cream 24, Reliable Furniture 2: Amanda Cox, Brittany Canterbury and Carby Wisner each had two hits, while Brynn Arnone had two hits and three RBI for Nutter's. Catherine Oldfather had three hits for Reliable.

Allegany Dental 6, Larry Allen 5: Taylor Davis had two hits for Allegany Dental. Sarah Hoover had two hits for Larry Allen.

Allegany Dental 17, Weller's Collision Center 11: Danielle Kitchen had two hits for Allegany Dental.

Debbie's Soft Serve 9, Antietam Title 8: Rachel Poffenberger hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth for Debbie's. Amber Welch and Sara Angle had two hits each for Antietam.

Larry Allen 10, Taylor's 8: Sam Sines, Britney Smith and Sarah Duffey all had two hits for Larry Allen.

South County Senior League

BAAA 2, Jeter Paving 1: Mike Debarge had two hits for BAAA. Kevin Tyler had two hits for Jeter Paving.

South County Junior League

Moose 15, Botanica 8: James Knable and Dustin Boward each had three hits while Brandon Morales, Travis Kelley and Travis Stevenson added two hits apiece for Moose. Eli Beard had four hits for Botanica.

Junior Interleague

Boonsboro Pharmacy 5, FOP 1: Jordan Young had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs for Boonsboro Pharmacy. Bobby Smith struck out 13 for FOP.

South Mountain Little League

Pete's Barber Shop 13, Post 10 3: Solan Wetzel had two hits for Pete's. Cody Delaney hit a three-run homer for Post 10.

National Little League

Funkstown 6, Crampton 0: Brandon Burnett pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Funkstown.

FOP 10 Funkstown 0: Cory Shank hit two home runs to lead FOP, while Richie Castro added two hits. Craig Walling had two hits for Funkstown.

Clear Spring Little League

Conococheague Grocery 4, Accent Imaging 3: Gabe Hirsch had two hits and Cody Englehart hit the game-winning triple for Conococheague Grocery. Cody Moore had two hits for Accent Imaging.

Hagerstown Colt League

FOP 11, Steffey Findley 1: Andy Morris pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts for FOP, while Chad Bikle, Bryan Powers and Dave Plank each had two hits.

UAW 15, Goodwill 4: Max Shifler pitched a four-hitter while Miles Brown homered and Kyle Kane had two hits for UAW.

UAW 14, B.J.'s 1: Adam Dellinger threw a three-hitter and Miles Brown homered twice to lead UAW. Cody Poffenberger, Brandon Rohrer and Kyle Kane added two hits each.

Hagerstown PONY League

FOP 7, Goodwill 3: Cody McCarthy pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for FOP, while Adam Taylor had three hits, including a grand slam, and David Stone added two hits.

Goodwill 7, UAW 4: Aaron Mills pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts, while Aaron Hershberger had two hits for Goodwill. Adrian Adams hit a three-run homer for UAW.

National Minor League

Antietam Fire Co. 7, AMVETS 6: Tyler Keller went 3-for-3 and Brett Rowland and Dalton Hottinger each had two hits for Antietam.
