Lillie M. Crook

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. - Lillie Mae Crook, 98, formerly of 2204 Ruth St., died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Eden Pines Assisted Living in Hagerstown, Md., where she was a resident.

Born Nov. 19, 1905, in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah Binkley Fryer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Crook, in 1974.

She taught school for a total of 38 years, beginning in the Tennessee school system in Springfield and later in Old Hickory, Tenn., before moving to Atlanta. She retired from the Atlanta school system, where she taught the last 22 years of her teaching career. The Atlanta Rotary gave a special recognition to her for her dedication to the teaching profession at her retirement as a STARS teacher.

She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, and held her membership at the First United Methodist Church of Springfield.


She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Y. Boring of Boonsboro, Md.; two grandchildren, John M. Boring and wife, Marsha, of Hagerstown, and Cynthia Dunn and husband, Dan, of Houston; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark A. Boring.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tenn. The Rev. Jeff Fryer will officiate.

The family will receive guests and friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Paul B. Mimnall Jr.

Paul B. Mimnall Jr., 72, of Hagerstown, Md., after a valiant fight with leukemia, went home to be with our Lord on May 21, 2004.

Born Aug. 7, 1931, in Lancaster, Pa., he was the son of the late Alice and Paul Mimnall.

After attending Hagerstown High School, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Paul was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1986 after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the VFW, North American Rod and Gun Club, Eagles Club of Waynesboro, Pa., and American Legion, Funkstown Post 211.

He is survived by his loving companion, Patsy Powell of Hagerstown; two sons of Hagerstown, Michael Mimnall and wife, Lisa, and their children, Jessica Cook and Chris Mimnall, and Jeffrey and his wife, Denise, and their children, Steven and Justin, and friend, Chance; one brother, Harry Mimnall of Hagerstown; one sister, Dot Long of Hagerstown; two nieces; one nephew; and his former wife, Jean Huntzberry of Smithsburg, Md. Paul also is survived by his extended family, Teresa and Doug Bachtell of Smithsburg, Cathy and Clyde Burk of Williamsport, Md., and Jimmy and Rose Powell of Smithsburg, along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Nellie M. Shuman

FUNKSTOWN - Nellie Mae Shuman, 93, of Funkstown, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born March 11, 1911, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Nathaniel and Margie Alice Hoover Bowman.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown, where she was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and Senior Citizens.

She had worked as a seamstress in clothing manufacturing.

She is survived by her husband, William Zellar Shuman; one daughter, Jacqueline Y. Grove of Hagerstown; one sister, Catherine B. Maiorana of Boonsboro; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila K. Hose; one sister, Hazel Musey; four brothers, Hugh Bowman, Walter Bowman, Renis Bowman and John Bowman; and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate.

At her request, there will be no visitation.

Olive C. Evans

FREDERICK, Md. - Olive Catherine "Gert" Evans, 63, of Frederick, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1941, in Olney, Md., she was the daughter of the late Dwight Mason and Bessie Alberta Stevens Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodland C. Evans, in 1989.

She had been employed by Dutch's Daughter's Restaurant.
