HANCOCK - A woman was charged with first-and second-degree assault and carrying a deadly weapon with intent to injure after allegedly shooting her husband Thursday night, according to court records.Beverly L. Zimmerman, 57, was being held Friday morning at Washington County Detention Center on $400,000 bond, a spokesman at the jail said. But a jail spokesman said Friday night that the woman was released.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies and investigators responded to the shooting, which was reported Thursday at 9:40 p.m. at 14504 Reel Road, a Washington County 911 dispatcher said. She said initial reports indicated the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the groin.

Court records said the victim, Ronnie R. Zimmerman, 58, was shot in the upper thigh during a dispute at the residence.

Deputies allege the Zimmermans were involved in an argument that escalated to Beverly Zimmerman shooting her husband with a .22-caliber revolver, according to records.

Records say the gun was found on a counter inside the home, and one round was fired from it.

Records say Ronnie Zimmerman said he did not want his wife charged in connection with the incident.

Ronnie Zimmerman was taken to the Winchester (Va.) Medical Center for treatment of the nonlife-threatening wound, according to deputies.

A Winchester Medical Center spokeswoman said Friday night that Zimmerman was not at the hospital.

Lead investigator Kenny Barnhart was not available for comment late Thursday or Friday.
