The second annual Franklin County Truck Convoy benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Franklin County, sponsored by the Cumberland Valley Dental Society, will be held Saturday, June 5, at Chambersburg Mall in Scotland, Pa.

Rich Bell of Chambersburg, the director of the convoy, said $7,000 was raised in last year's event, which drew 12 big rigs.

So far this year, 20 truckers have registered. Bell said his goal is to have more than 30. Truckers pay a $50 fee to register, then raise pledges.

The convoy will leave Chambersburg Mall, take Pa. 997 to Waynesboro, Pa.; travel Pa. 16 to Greencastle, Pa.; follow U.S. 11 through Chambersburg; and take Pa. 997 back to the mall.

Local children whose wishes have been granted by Franklin County Make-A-Wish ride in the trucks, Bell said.

"It's like a parade through the little towns," Bell said. "The kids and their families are in the truck and honking the horns and waving. They're very excited about it."

In conjunction with the convoy, a small carnival will start at 10 a.m. at the mall with games and face painting, Bell said. The convoy pulls out at 11:30 a.m.

For more information or to enter your truck in the convoy, call Bell at 717-264-1612 or 717-264-7518.
