MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 19-year-old Martinsburg man was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 11 north of Martinsburg Monday afternoon after he tried to pass two cars in a no-passing zone, a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Joseph Aaron Myers, of Beth Street, died in the 2:38 p.m. accident, officials said.

Myers was traveling south on U.S. 11 in front of Spurgeon Trucking when he tried to pass two cars, said Chief Deputy Kenny Lemaster.

Myers' Pontiac struck a Ford pickup truck that was traveling north on the highway, Lemaster said.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but was canceled before it arrived because Myers did not respond to medical treatment, Lemaster said.

Myers was declared dead at the scene, Lemaster said.

A passenger in Myers' car was taken to City Hospital for injuries that were not considered to be life threatening, Lemaster said.

The person's name was not available.

The driver of the pick-up truck, whose name was not available, was taken to City Hospital in a private vehicle for treatment of minor injuries, Lemaster said.
