Blue Storm salvages split in Riverdale Baptist tourney

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - Mercersburg Academy rapped 16 hits in the second game for an 11-4 victory over The Hill School in the Riverdale Baptist Invitational Tournament.

Alex Maulucci hit a three-run home run and Gavin Vetrano added a solo shot in the victory. Josh Edgin had three hits and drove in three runs.

Mercersburg Academy (9-6) managed only three hits in a 3-0 loss to host Riverdale Baptist in the tournament's opener.

Notre Dame 7, Hedgesville 6

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Notre Dame Academy (Va.) scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning Friday night, breaking a 6-6 tie with an unearned runs on two Hedgesville errors.


A.J. Mason (4-1) pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the Eagles (21-8), who committed four errors.

Bryce Blair went 2-for-3 with a two-run double for Hedgesville, while Tony Powell went 2-for-3 with a double, Duncan Williams doubled and Dirk Webb and Mason each had an RBI single.


Blue Ridge Adult Baseball

Brunswick 6, Hagerstown 3: Jimmy Jackson drove in the winning run with a single in the eighth inning as Brunswick topped Hagerstown in Blue Ridge baseball action.

Steve Goode added an insurance two-run single for a three-run Brunswick cushion.

After the Orioles grabbed a 3-2 lead on a run-scoring single by Kevin Goode in the seventh, Hagerstown's Zach Swisher tied the game with an RBI single to send the game to extra innings.

Swisher led the Braves with three hits and drove in all three runs for the Braves (2-1). Dan Cunningham added two hits for Hagerstown.



AMVETS 11, Yankees 10: Logan Appel, Chris Smith and John Huse each had two hits to lead AMVETS. Brad Jordan and Chad Lowery had two hits for the Yankees.

Funkstown 7, A's 6: Jeremy Caldwell, Brandon Burnett, Jordan Nicewarner and Jayme Sutherland had two hits each for Funkstown.

Conococheague Grocery 7, FOP 3: Gabe Hirsh and Cody Englehart combined for 10 strikeouts, while Austin Yost and Doug Morgan each had two hits to lead Concocheague Grocery. Nick Gross had three hits, including a home run, and Anthony Huse added two hits for FOP.

Minor Interleague

B.J. Builders 18, Rita's 11: Wayne Roberts had three hits, while Randy Cumblidge and Shane Fritts each added two for B.J. Builders. D.J. Jobe had two hits for Rita's.

Valley Little League

St. Lawrence Cement 5, Dorsey Bros. 4: Jason Kendall struck out eight and drove in the game-winning run to lead St. Lawrence. Zane Garver, Jacob Gouff and Jesse Lombardi each had two hits and Ryne Willard had two RBI in the win. Ryan Peters, Casey Ymbert, Victor McCormick and Corey Sharenbroch had two hits each for Dorsey.

St. Lawrence Cement 9, F&M 4: Jacob Gouff and Zane Garver combined for 10 strikeouts and Ryne Willard had two hits to lead St. Lawrence. Andrew Michael and Evan Dennis had two hits each for F&M.

West End Little League

VFW 3, AFL-CIO 1: Dustin Rowland threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and had two hits, including a home run, to lead VFW. Allen Bowers had three hits in the win. Aaron Stoner struck out 10 for AFL-CIO.

Coca-Cola 10, Stags 0: Matt Davis pitched a no-hitter, while Dwight Boward had three hits, including a home run, for Coca-Cola. Austin Scott had two hits.

Conococheague Little League

Byers' Market 10, Wolfe's 0: Connor Haynes threw a two-hitter and Timber Jones hit a grand slam to lead Byers'. Joey Sutch, Dustin Violet and Zachary Lucas added two hits each in the win.

Hancock Little League

Astros 12, Pirates 2: Dylan Whiteside had three hits, including two home runs, to lead the Astros. Nick Harvey added three hits.

Yankees 13, Tigers 12: Garrett Wiles had four hits and Noah Smartt and Kyle Smith each had two hits for the Yankees. David Weller had three hits and J.C. Munson and Joe Lashley each had two hits for the Tigers.

Junior Interleague

Swope's Tire 11, FOP 1: Brenton Kopeck had three hits, while Ian Ramsey, Jamison Walck and Evan Reed each added two to lead Swope's. Kopeck drove in two runs. Matt Rummel had two hits for FOP.

Senior Interleague

Jeter Paving 6, Sons of American Legion 4: Travis Hayes, Kevin Tyler and Alex Wine each had two hits for Jeter.

Hagerstown PONY League

F&M 9, Goodwill 6: John Mason and Tim Jacobson homered, while Jared Ferguson, Jordan Young and Jeremy Baron each added two hits to lead F&M. Brett Turner and Chris Reid had two hits each and Drew Williams homered for Goodwill.

Washington Co. Girls Softball

Gray Co. 13, Wilson Ruritan 9: Allie Nichols and Ariel Grissinger each had four hits, while Shawn Kelly and Lyndsie Delosier added two each to lead Gray Co. Oliva Baker had three hits and Haley Thorn and Jose Stotler had two for Wilson Ruritan.
