Police seek man charged in assault, drug possession

The Hagerstown Police Department is seeking the public's help in finding a Frederick, Md., man charged with drug possession, assault and theft in Washington County.Damien Purnell McDowell, 32, whose last known address was 1417 Key Parkway, apartment 4C, in Frederick, has two bench warrants out for his arrest, police said in a press release.

The police department has a District Court bench warrant and a Circuit Court bench warrant for McDowell, police said.

The District Court bench warrant was issued April 20 for failure to appear in court for a hearing or trial on the charges of two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs other than marijuana and malicious destruction of property, police said.

The Circuit Court bench warrant was issued on April 6 for failure to appear for a plea hearing on charges of theft, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.

The whereabouts of McDowell is unknown at this time, police said. McDowell is described by police as 5 foot 11 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds and having brown hair and brown eyes.
