Cover the Uninsured Week announced



This week was named Cover the Uninsured Week by the Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday.

Nearly 44 million Americans, including 8.5 million children, do not have health-care coverage, according to the proclamation.

The proclamation states those without insurance live sicker and die younger than those who have insurance.




May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month



This month was proclaimed Foster Parent Appreciation Month in Washington County on Tuesday by the County Commissioners.

The proclamation is intended to "recognize the contributions of foster families who lend their time, talent and energy on behalf of children in foster care, as well as the child welfare professional staff working with them during this month and throughout the year," according to the proclamation.

There are 271 children and youth in foster care in the county, the proclamation states.
