MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Less than 50 votes separated the Republican candidates seeking the 53rd District House of Delegates seat late Tuesday, making the race one of Berkeley County's closest.

With 46 of the county's 59 precincts reporting Tuesday night, Vic A Roberts Jr. had 439 votes, while Dewey Largent Jr. had 355 votes.

The Republican nominee will face Democrat Jerry Burton in the Nov. 2 general election. Burton is the only Democrat running for the seat.

Delegates, elected every two years, make $15,000 a year.
