Man charged with DUI after car overturns

A car overturned on Mechanic Street in Hagers- town early Tuesday after hitting a curb on Burhans Boulevard, said Pam Keefauver, criminal records clerk with the Hagerstown Police Department.

Keefauver said that at about 1:30 a.m., a 2004 Hyundai hit a curb by Byers Stop-N-Go, entered the 400 block of North Burhans Boulevard, did a U-turn at Antietam Tree & Turf and then went westbound on Mechanic Street. When police arrived at the 400 block of Mechanic Street, the car was found overturned, she said.

"It went up some steps and flipped over," said Sgt. Fred Wolford.

Michael Eugene Gomeringer, 54, of 708 Forest Drive in Hagerstown, was charged with negligent driving, driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated and unsafe lane changing, Keefauver said.

Gomeringer was treated at Washington County Hospital and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Chevy Lumina driven without permission

The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents overnight Monday:

A 1992 Chevrolet Lumina Van with West Virginia tag NDN773 was taken from 868 Virginia Ave. and used without authorization.
A vehicle parked at 406 W. Washington St. was damaged.
An assault was reported at 500 Virginia Ave. The victim reported that two unknown men were the assailants.

The following thefts were reported for that period:

A purse was stolen from the Wal-Mart at Garland Groh Boulevard.
A 1999 green Mercury four-door, with Maryland tag HLW578, was stolen from 819 Corbett St.
Bicycles were stolen from 1115 Woodland Way and 437 Summit Ave.
A diamond and ruby bracelet was stolen from 140 E. Franklin St.
A wallet, cell phone and keys were stolen from 645 Oak Hill Ave.
