Swearing-in ceremony held

FUNKSTOWN - Three Funkstown Town Council members and the assistant mayor who were re-elected last week were sworn in Monday.

Washington County Clerk of the Circuit Court Dennis Weaver swore in council members Sharon Chirgott, Robert D. Rodgers Jr. and John Phillips III and Assistant Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. Monday night at the Funkstown mayor and Town Council meeting.

Mayor Robert L. Kline said 76 of the town's more than 500 registered voters turned out.

Richard L. Gaver ran in addition to the incumbents.

Town Clerk Brenda Haynes said an incorrect newspaper advertisement about the election may have contributed to the low turnout.

Request for funding denied

FUNKSTOWN - The Funkstown mayor and Town Council on Monday voted unanimously not to donate money to an Emma K. Doub School for Integrated Arts and Technology Destination Imagination team.

Council member Sharon Chirgott said the town does not donate to such charities.
