Simmel's walk-off homer lifts Catoctin

THURMONT, Md. - With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kirk Simmel hit a walkoff three-run homer to lift Catoctin past Brunswick 12-9 Thursday in the MVAL Antietam.

Simmel had three hits, including a double. Justin Greenup had three hits and Will Delawter, Zack Ausherman and R.J. Morse each had two hits for Catoctin (10-7, 7-4).

No. 6 G'castle 7, Biglerville 3

BIGLERVILLE, Pa. - Winning pitcher Nick Schrieber hurled a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts and four walks and hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning of Greencastle's Mid-Penn Colonial victory over Biglerville.

Brett Sellers and Jared Barkdoll each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Conrad Myers had three hits for the Blue Devils (13-5, 11-2).

Musselman 13, No. 5 Jefferson 8

INWOOD, W.Va. - Joey Pletcher had three hits to lead Musselman (13-8) past Jefferson.

Adam Kessel and Kylee Griffith each had two hits for Jefferson (16-9).

Grace 15, Carroll Christian 6

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Winning pitcher Eric Hess hurled a complete game with 10 strikeouts and had three hits to lead Grace Academy.

Jordan Hanft had two hits and three RBI, Jacob Reese drove in three runs, Darren Sweeney had three hits and A.J. Serafini had two hits for the Knights (9-2).

Tuscarora 14, St. James 6

ST. JAMES - Mike Siegel went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs for St. James (0-13, 0-8).

Catoctin 9, Clear Spring 2

CLEAR SPRING - Will Delawter pitched a complete game with zero walks and 10 strikeouts to lead Catoctin over Clear Spring on Wednesday. Jake Yocum had two hits, including a third-inning solo homer, and Delawter had two hits, including a sixth-inning solo homer. Zack Ausherman added two hits for the Cougars.


S. Fulton 20, McConnellsburg 2

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Hilary DeShong had two RBI for McConnellsburg (0-13)

Courtney Trainor tripled for Southern Fulton (6-7).

Broadfording 10, MSD 10

Morgan Brown had three hits and Chris Mehaffie struck out 10 to lead Broadfording in the Lions' tie with Maryland School for the Deaf.


Hawks compete at nationals

LEVELLAND, Texas - Hagerstown Community College's Ryan Davis and Allen Pettner both competed at the NJCAA Divison I outdoor championships at South Plains College.

Davis finished 15th in the 10,000-meter run in 35 minutes, 19 seconds. Central Arizona's Obed Mutanya won the race in 30:56.

Pettner was 14th in the javelin with a throw of 163 feet, 10 inches. Alleyne Lett of Central Arizona won at 193-1.


Wash. Co. Girls Softball

Glocker Group 25, Builder's First Source 9: Sheri Pryor had two hits, including a grand slam, and Candace Horchner, Ariah Giles and Miranda Valentine each had two hits. Kayla Ewing had three hits for Builder's.

FOP 18, Wilson Ruritan 17: Taylor Leather, Danielle Dayhoff, Faith Ricker and Amanda Mentzer each had two hits for FOP. Taylor Jones had two hits for Wilson.

BJ's Custom Embroidery 12, Reliable Furniture 10: Sissy Russ had three hits, while Ashlee Ernde and Corey Delamaeu added two hits each to lead BJ's.

Mid-Atlantic Orthopedics 12, Ernst Market 7: Carrie Johnson, Susana Brown and Minta Lowell had two hits each for Mid-Atlantic.

Nutter's Ice Cream 15, Mid-Atlantic Orthodontist 7: Destanie Agee had two hits for Mid-Atlantic.

Senior Interleague

Maugansville Shawley's 13, South County BAAA 0: Adam Merrbaugh pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts, while Kent Worthington and Fred Krieger had two hits for Shawley's on Tuesday.

Post 202 10, American Legion 0: Chad Moser and Stan Hoffman combined to pitch a one-hitter. Jeff Sines and Sean Moats each had two hits for Post 202.

Sharpsburg Little League

Nutter's Ice Cream 11, Keedysville Ruritan 3: Matthew Harsh, Evan Rosenthal, Luke Harsh, Tess Hebert and Trey Bricker each had three hits for Nutter's, while Bryce Dickens, Aasron Snyder, Ryan Curtic, Colin Crisp and Matthew Nolan each had two hits. Ashton Binkley had three hits and Travis Loenardo, Katy Garment, Ryan Betson and Cory Robertson had two hits each for Keedysville.

Company One 3, Builder's Associates 1: Dryan Cole struck out 14 for Builder's Associates.

F&M 11, Total Lube 1: Evan Dennis struck out nine and Jack Schwartz had two hits for F&M.

Federal Little League

Alsatia 10, Kiwanis 7: Kevin Proctor had three hits for Alsatia. Zach Schreiber, Chuck Mellott and Jay Donoghue each had two hits and Christian Snyder had three hits for Kiwanis.

West End Little League

Western Enterprise 14, Hopewell 6: Bryce Card, Austin Nave and Corbin Rolan each had two hits for Western. Dylan Stouffer had three hits for Hopewell.

VFW 5, Coca-Cola 3: Dustin Rowland pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and had two hits, while Alan Bowers had two hits and drove in three runs for VFW. Dwight Boward had nine strikeouts for Coca-Cola.
