Board reassigns school principals


The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday approved several personnel changes, including the reassignment of some principals.

Human Resources Director Don Francis listed the following changes:

  • Joanne Hilton, principal of Boonsboro Elementary School, will become principal of Bester Elementary School, effective July 1.

  • The principal of Bester, Drenna Reineck, will become principal of Boonsboro Elementary, effective July 1.

  • Catherine Scuffins will become interim principal of Hickory Elementary School, effective May 10, while the current principal, Larry Smith, is absent on leave. Scuffins is principal of Cascade Elementary School.

  • Cheryl Lannon, the assistant principal of Eastern Elementary School, will be interim managing assistant principal at Cascade Elementary School, effective May 10.


Teacher Appreciation Week is proclaimed


Washington County Board of Education member Paul W. Bailey on Tuesday read aloud part of a proclamation designating May 2-8 as Teacher Appreciation Week in Maryland.

Brian Williamson, the student representative on the Board of Education, read part of the proclamation, which was issued by Gov. Robert Ehrlich.

Williamson, a student at North Hagerstown High School, said he knows local teachers are excellent.

"I can vouch for the wonderful job they do," Williamson said.
