The Whittingtons

Bill and Susan Whittington of Hagerstown were honored Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary dinner at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion in Hagerstown. The event was hosted by their sons, Bill and his girlfriend, Kena, Tim and his wife, Jodi, and Mike. More than 100 friends and family members attended the celebration.

Pastor Steve Wagoner officiated at a renewal of their wedding vows.

The Whittingtons were married Feb. 13, 1954, at the home of Rev. Francis Litten in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Whittington is the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Hamby Bartles. She is a homemaker.

Mr. Whittington is the son of Lewellyn Whittington of Williamsport and the late Ethel McLucas Whittington. He has been employed with Statton Furniture Manufacturing Co., for 38 years.

The Eckards

Patricia and L. Donald Eckard of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003.

The Eckards were married Dec. 27, 1953, at Grace Methodist Church in Cumberland, Md., by the Rev. Adam Grimm, now deceased.


Mrs. Eckard is the daughter of Pauline O'Hara Talley Holihan and the late James W. Talley. She worked for C&P Telephone Co., before her marriage and worked for Hagerstown Trust for eight years.

Mr. Eckard is the son of the late Stephen J. Eckard and the late Kathleen Myers Eckard Shipley. He worked for the B&O Railroad and then retired from Mack Trucks after 30 years of service.

They have three children, Jeffrey D. Eckard of Hagerstown, Gregory S. Eckard of Chambersburg, Pa., and Diane P. Eckard Mowen of Hancock. They also have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
