Trailers used for storage under review

April 23, 2004|by GREGORY T. SIMMONS

Hagerstown city officials Tuesday took a critical look at trailers that were once part of tractor-trailer rigs.

The trailers have been taken off the road and are being used as storage containers. The trailers, which are parked on public and private parking lots in the city, are unsightly and may pose a health risk, City Engineer Rodney Tissue said Tuesday.

Tissue said that under current regulations, city inspectors can't force owners to remove the trailers. The question is whether there should be further regulation on trailers when they're specifically used for storage, Tissue said.

The City Council requested additional information, including more detailed maps and zoning information, before deciding what to do.
