Roney's winning hit leads Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT - Will Roney knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with two outs to break a 12-12 tie to lead Williamsport (9-1) over Smithsburg on Monday, 13-12. David Warrenfeltz had a two-run shot in the fourth inning and Andy Taylor added four hits with three RBI. Ben Jordan and Josh Bowers each had two hits for Williamsport.

Gerry Spessard went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and Wayne Rumbaugh added a two-run homer for the Leopards. Drew Crawford, Nate Steelman and T.J. Bowser each had two hits.

Frederick 4, North Carroll 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Mike Herald held North Carroll to two hits in seven innings and Brian Lanning had two hits with a double in the win for Frederick (6-4, 3-2).

Trinity 4, Greencastle 2

CAMP HILL, Pa. - Brett Sellers and Nate Kopp each had two hits for Greencastle (6-3, 4-1) in its loss to Trinity.

St. Andrews 17, St. James 0

POTOMAC, Md. - St. James falls to 0-6 after being no-hit by St. Andrews.


Smithsburg 12, Williamsport 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Candace Stanford and Amy Miller each went 3-for-4 and Alyssa Reed and Kasie Beaver added two hits apiece in Smithsburg's win over Williamsport (7-3, 4-1).

Goretti 10, Grace Academy 0

Elena Prieston threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 11 to lead St. Maria Goretti over Grace Academy.

Prieston added two hits and scored three times, while Lauren Barton's three-run double highlighted a four-run fourth inning for the Gaels (3-7).

Grace Academy fell to 0-4.

Hancock 4, Berkeley Springs

HANCOCK - Adrienne Kesecker struck out nine, walked none and gave up one run in a complete-game victory for Hancock.

Amy Barton went 3-for-3 and stole three bases for the Panthers (6-2).

Amanda Bowers went 2-for-3 for Berkeley Springs.

South 15, Clear Spring 5

Brooke Powell had two hits and Kara Williamson pitched a complete-game victory in her first start of the season for South as the Rebels (7-4) beat Clear Spring in five innings.


Mercersburg 13, Notre Dame 5

MIDDLEBURG, Va. - Mike Merryman, Ryan Niland and Will Gridley scored hat tricks for Mercersburg Academy.

Jonas Vetter, Nick Mellott, Wyatt Burkholder and Matt Walsh also scored for the Blue Storm (5-3).


Shepherd 3, Salem Int'l 2

SALEM, W.Va. - Brooke Small knocked in the winning run for the Rams with a single in the sixth inning. Julie Scherpf had an RBI triple for Shepherd (16-19, 9-6 WVAIC).


Washington County Softball

Taylor's Sluggers 13, Reliable 7: Christine Mehaffie had seven strikeouts, a triple and single for Taylor's. Sarah McKinsey and Chelsie Martinez each doubled and singled for the winners. Eryn Greene and Marissia Krandell each doubled for Reliable.

FOP 9, Paul Crampton's Construction 8: Amanda Mentzer had three hits, including a home run, Faith Ricker had two hits and Amanda Reese had two hits for FOP.

Elementary Division

Antietam Title 18, Builder's First 4: Amber Myers and Haley Payne each had three hits, Kayla Payne, Amanda Green and Kim Seabright each had two hits and Becky Young homered for Antietam.

Hagerstown PONY League

Jeter Paving 11, FOP 10: Tommy Evans drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for Jeter. Evans, Tyler Hornbecker and Will Murray each had two hits for the winners. Cody McCarthy had four hits, while Mike Warrenfeltz and Seth Poffenberger each had two for FOP.

Elks 9, UAW 6: Tim Leather and Jeremy Smith had two hits each, including back-to-back homers, while T.J. Smith also homered and Sam Mills had three hits for Elks. Tim Hamilton, Jovann Carter and Bryan Parlett had two hits each for UAW.

West End Little League

Moose 5, Coca-Cola 2: Kyle Head and Josh Smith combined to pitch a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Moose.

West End Minor League

Woodpoint 5, Western Enterprise 4: Wade Burkhart and Colby Johnson both hit inside-the-park homers for Woodpoint. Burkhart and Josh Singleton both finished the game with three hits while Johnson and Travis Durham each had two hits for Woodpoint.

American Little League

Goodwill 3, Funkstown 1: Scott St. Clair struck out 14 for Goodwill while Nick Martin struck out 10 for Funkstown.

Conococheague Little League

Byers' Market 11, Taylor's Trucking 9: Timber Jones and Dustin Violet had two hits and five RBI apiece while Casey McKenrick added two hits for Byers. Violet hit the game-winning home run, and Jones had a grand slam in the win. Zack Bloyer and Tevis Palmer had two hits and three RBI each while Ryan Smith added two hits for Taylor's.

Conocochague Minor League

Tony's Pizza 7, Yankees 1: Sterling Christy and Jake Quigley each had homeruns for Tony's Pizza while TJ Boyer and Brooke Brechbill each had a triple.

South Mountain Little League

Pete's Barber Shop 4, Reeses 1: Brandan Nokes had three hits for Pete's while Sean Colgan added two hits and pitched a oneihitter.
