Volunteers are sought for cleanup

April 21, 2004|by WANDA T. WILLIAMS

Volunteers are being sought to help with spring cleaning along Jonathan Street and West North Avenue in Hagerstown for two hours on Saturday, May 8. "This cleanup is being sponsored by C-SAFE, formerly known as HotSpots," program coordinator Carolyn Brooks said Tuesday.

Collaborative Supervision and Focused Enforcement, or C-SAFE, is a state-funded, community-based crime prevention program based in the Martin Luther King Center on North Avenue.

All ages are welcome to pick up trash, cut grass and do some light landscaping, Brooks said.

"The last two years we were rained out. This year we're hoping for better weather," she said.

Brooks said adult volunteers are needed to help with the cleanup and to help supervise youths who want to participate.

Cleaning supplies will be provided, but additional bottled water and landscaping supply donations are needed, she said.

Work will start at 9 a.m. and the project will wrap up with a catered lunch at 11 a.m.
