The official destination guide of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau has arrived and is free for travelers looking to plan visits to the Hub City and surrounding area.

This year's guide expands on the award-winning design of earlier Visitors Guides and is a handy reference for special events, golf, outdoor activities, attractions, dining, shopping and more. The guide contains a wealth of exciting features, including:

  • Magazine-style feature articles on Hagerstown and Washington County's recreational attractions, art galleries and museums.

  • Historical perspective on early colonial life, and during the Civil War.

  • Useful reference listings of area offerings, including resorts and hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, spas and more.

  • City and county maps, and in-depth looks at Washington County's municipalities.

This comprehensive travel resource includes detailed listings of Washington County's area hotels and resorts, golf courses, campgrounds, shops and retail centers, restaurants, activities and adventures. Not to be missed are the planned calendar of events for the months to come.

The first printing of 120,000 copies of the 2004-2005 Visitors Guide will be distributed to potential visitors, travel professionals and meeting planners who talk with the Hagers-town-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Copies also will be distributed at the CVB's Visitor Welcome Center in Downtown Hagerstown, at hotels and resorts, special events, the State of Maryland's Visitors Centers, Hagerstown Regional Airport, directly through CVB members, AAA offices throughout the Quad-State area, Prime Outlets, at meeting planner and event trade shows and at other venues.

According to CVB President and CEO Tom Riford, "The 2004-2005 Hagerstown-Washington County Visitors Guide is just one of the many complimentary services that our county's CVB provides to potential leisure and business travelers, and meeting and travel professionals.

"We receive thousands of inquiries for the annual publication, and it is used by school groups, real estate firms, relocation offices and business organizations."

Advertisements in the guide help bring recognition, and visitors, to CVB members. Riford said that putting the guide together is a major project. "This effort began eight months ago, and the CVB staff works hard to include new CVB members in the annual guide. Our staff writes and edits articles, signs up advertisers, collects graphics, assembles photographs, helps with layout, and works with the guide's designers and printers."

Riford said that local graphics firm pm2 Studios provided production and design services for the 2004-2005 Visitors Guide.
