PREP BASEBALL



GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Greencastle took advantage of four James Buchanan errors for four unearned runs and the Blue Devils remained undefeated in the Mid-Penn Colonial with a 6-2 win over the Rockets on Friday.

Brett Sellers tossed 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief to notch his first win of the year. He also hit a run-scoring double - one of only four hits for Greencastle (5-2, 4-0).

No. 5 Jefferson 11 Bridgeport 10


SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - David Smith's two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth helped Jefferson regain the lead and hold off Bridgeport.

The Cougars (10-3) led 10-2 after four innings, but Bridgeport rallied to tie the score with four runs in both the fifth and sixth.

Smith had three hits and three RBI to lead Jefferson. Adam Kessel had three hits and two RBI and Gage Levac had two hits.

Catoctin 7, Brunswick 0


BRUNSWICK, Md. - R.J. Morse pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Catoctin blanked Brunswick in the MVAL Antietam.

Will Delawter had four hits, while Zach Ausherman and Jake Yocum each added three for the Cougars (5-3, 2-1).

Josh Via doubled for Brunswick (3-5, 1-2).

FREDERICK, Md. - Dennis Bozzell hit the game-winning RBI and Brett Mitchell picked up his second win on the mound for St. John's at Prospect Hall (8-4, 4-3 MIAA).

Jeremy Hess hit a two-run homer in the first, and Bozzell, Scott Ritter and Roger O'Donoghue each doubled for the Vikings.

TARBORO, N.C. - John Stilley hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Rocky Mount Academy over St. Maria Goretti late Thursday in the Tarboro Easter Classic.

The Gaels took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by Mason Herman's solo home run. Rocky Mount got one run back in the fourth on a bases-loaded suicide squeeze before Stilley's home run in the fifth off starter Sean Engle (0-3).

Engle allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out 10.

The Gaels dropped their final game in the tournament Friday, losing to Winslow (N.J.). Herman had three hits, including another solo homer, while Trevor Cobb and Paul Angello each had two hits for Goretti (5-7).

DILLSBURG, Pa. - Bobbi Helman's two-run single in the eighth inning gave Waynesboro a victory in a game the Maidens led 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh before Northern York rallied to send it into extra innings.

Jenna Bakner, Amanda Mummert and Kristi Young added two hits and Bakner drove in a run for Waynesboro (5-2, 3-2).

Kristen Hess allowed 11 hits, no walks and one earned run for the complete-game victory.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Sam Weaver tossed a four-hit shutout as Catoctin upset previously unbeaten Brunswick in MVAL Antietam action.

The Cougars (7-2, 5-0) benefitted from nine Brunswick errors and Jen Kelly had three hits and Sara Wessler and Alecia Brandenburg each had two in the win.

Heather Termohlen doubled and LeEllen Lewis tripled for the Railroaders (5-1, 2-1).

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Winning pitcher Maggie Smith had two hits and two RBI to lead Berkeley Springs past Pendleton County at the Moorefield Tournament.

Jennifer Fox had two hits and an RBI for the Indians (8-2).

Middletown 14, Walkersville 3


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Katelyn Coffey had two hits and struck out eight to lead Middletown to an MVAL Piedmont win over Walkersville.

Jessica Metzner and Ashley Harding also had two hits each and Megan Rinehart added a three-run double for the Knights (4-3, 2-0).

WILLIAMSPORT - Sarah Harden and Mandy Spickler each went 2-for-3 for Williamsport (6-2).

Tawnya Blair had three hits for Clear Spring.

Musselman 13, Goretti 0


Amanda Colegrove pitched a one-hitter as Musselman shut out St. Maria Goretti in five innings.

The Gaels (1-7) committed nine errors in the loss. Losing pitcher Elena Prieston had the only hit.

Broadfording 19, St. James 2


Winning pitcher Christina Mehaffe had four hits, including a home run, and five RBI as Broadfording Christian rolled past St. James.

Cindel Young also had four hits, including a home run, and three RBI and Jesse Fath added four hits and three RBI for the Lions (1-3). Leslie Brown had two hits and Michelle Horst had two hits and two RBI.

Chestnut Ridge 15 McConnellsburg 1


FISHERTOWN, Pa. - Chestnut Ridge used four hits, four walks and four errors to score 11 runs in the fourth inning of a Sideling Hill League victory over McConnellsburg.

Chestnut Ridge pitcher Megan Frazier held the Spartans (0-3, 0-2) to three hits and struck out five.

Hilary Deshong had an RBI single for the Spartans.

Suns to broadcast LL games


The Hagerstown Suns radio broadcasters will call the play-by-play action for two Little League games this season on WHAG 1410 AM.

Jason Gordon and Jay Burnham will broadcast at National Little League today at 5:45 p.m. and at Federal Little League on April 28, also at 5:45.
