The Summerses

Helen and Grayson Summers of Middletown, Md., celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Sunday, March 7.

They were married in Keyser, W.Va., March 7, 1934, at the residence of Mr. Summers' brother-in-law who was a minister.

The Summerses were farmers most of their lives. They raised Rhode Island red chickens and Holstein, Jersey and Limousine cows. They sold eggs, milk, corn and vegetables.

They enjoy stamp collecting, reading and visiting with friends, family and their pastor.

They raised two children, Gaynel Miller and Val Jean Bussard. They have three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Hoses

Lewis J. Hose Jr. and Helen L. Hose of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 6, 2004, at a surprise anniversary party and the renewal of their wedding vows at the Wilson Ruritan Club hosted by their children and grandchildren. More than 150 friends and family attended this event.

The Hoses were married on March 6, 1954, in the home of Lew and Leona Gerhold in Mount Union, Pa.

Mr. Hose is the son of the late Lewis J. Hose Sr. and Emma Spielman Hose of Washington County. He is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, worked at Hoffman Chevrolet and retired from Mack Truck.

Mrs. Hose is the daughter of the late David A. Gerhold Sr. and Maude D. Gordon Gerhold and the stepdaughter of Elva Hornbaker Gerhold of Mercersburg, Pa. Mrs. Hose worked as a waitress for many years in the Hagerstown area.

The Hoses have 11 children, 34 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
