Smithsburg EMS responded to 69 service calls in March

SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to 69 calls for service during March, according to Capt. James Ulrich.

The busiest days of the month were Saturday, March 13, and Tuesday, March 16, with six emergency calls each day.

Seven calls were to Frederick County, Md., and four to Franklin County, Pa. Eight calls were within the Smithsburg town limits, while another 17 calls were to the Leitersburg area and five calls to Hagerstown.

The most common call types were for vehicle accidents and respiratory distress, which accounted for 19 calls. Personnel transported 38 patients to area hospitals.

Five assists on fire-related incidents were also logged during March.
