Council candidates must file by Monday

KEEDYSVILLE - Keedysville residents who want to run for Town Council must file their intent to run by Monday with the town clerk.

Voters will choose a mayor, assistant mayor and the three Town Council members during balloting on Saturday, May 1, Assistant Mayor Matt Hull said Monday.

Under a recent election ordinance change, the mayor and assistant mayor's offices will be four-year terms and two of the Town Council slots will be two-year terms. The third council member will be seated for a four-year term.

Hull said the change was made so not all seats would come open at the same time.

Mayor Lee Brandenburg said once the council is elected, if one member does not volunteer for the four-year term, the council will select a member to serve that term.
