FANNETTSBURG, Pa. - A 19-year-old Fannettsburg woman was killed Tuesday morning in a one-car accident in Metal Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Michelle Cullison of 11981 Creek Road died at the scene of the 9:29 a.m. accident on the 11300 block of Creek Road, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said. He said she was heading away from her home, which is about a mile from the accident scene.

Police said Cullison was driving a 1998 Nissan Stanza south when the car veered off the west side of the road and traveled 134 feet before hitting a large tree. The accident happened about four-tenths of a mile north of Pa. 533 in the northwest section of Franklin County, police said.

Cullison was wearing a seat belt, but the airbags in the car did not deploy, police said. The front end of the car was heavily damaged.

Conner said the cause of death had not been determined. An autopsy will be performed Thursday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa.

"She graduated about two years ago. I remember her as a very nice young lady," Fannett-Metal School District Superintendent Dana Baker said Tuesday night.

Once the district learned of the accident, Baker said some students related to Cullison were allowed to go home for the rest of the day.
