HAGERSTOWN - Allegheny Energy Inc. has named a vice president of quality, a new position for the utility, a company spokeswoman said Monday.

Mike Adams, who was an adviser to Florida Power & Light when that company won a prize for quality management, was named vice president of quality, spokeswoman Janice Lantz said.

Allegheny Energy President Paul J. Evanson was president of Florida Power and Light Co. before taking over the reins at Allegheny last June.

Adams will work with the executive leadership team to develop a high-performance organization with an increased emphasis on improving quality and productivity and controlling costs within the entire company, Lantz said.

Lantz said the creation of the position was not specifically about the company's late Securities and Exchange Commission filings in recent years or the errors found in financial filings.

Adams' rsum includes serving as director at Global Performance Excellence at Microsoft and as managing partner of Mike Adams & Co., a management consulting practice, according to an Allegheny Energy news release.
