Mail Call

March 26, 2004

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I lost a gold diamond ring somewhere around Reynolds Avenue. If anyone found it, could you please call Mail Call and leave your number?"

"Concerning the cellphones. I am up with the times and sometimes I like them and sometimes I don't. I have one and I do use it occasionally. I don't need a cellphone to know where my children are, where my friends are and I don't need a cellphone to remind me of my appointments. I just write a note down because I haven't lost my mind enough yet that I can't remember my appointments. I just found it kind of funny that that woman was trying to load her groceries and talk on a cell phone at the same time."

"I'm 84 years old and my only income is Socail Security and I never worked outside of my home and I raised my children. When the landfill fees go up, I will no longer recycle my trash as I always have."

"I found a key chain. It's a heart silver key chain. Engraved it says, 'Sterling O. White Jr. and Tammy M.' The last name starts with a 'B' I think. I found it at the Martin's near Valley Mall. It had two keys on it. If you can describe it, leave your number in Mail Call. I don't have a phone at this time so you have to leave yours and I will be glad to return it to you."

"In reference to a letter I received from USO to help our soldiers in foreign lands, our government sends the soldiers there so I think the government should pay for their entertainment and all other programs for them. I am thankful for our soldiers and our veterans, but our government is getting enough from our middle class to pay for this."

"Why can't we have a postal mail drop at each of these two big new shopping centers? The one where Weis Market is on Dual Highway and the other one where Wal-Mart is. All of the people that go to both of these shopping centers and they have stuff to mail and no place to put them. Get on the job, post office."

"On Saturday between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., our family cat was hit right in front of our house on Spielman Road. We live at the first house on the curve before Gowers' Feed Mill. When my horses got out before, everyone seemed to stop and help. This time nobody stopped to see whose cat it was. The speeding on this road has to stop. It's an ongoing problem on this road. The next time it won't be an animal, it will be a human fatality. This is from the Black family."

"Does anyone know of a club, organization, group or church that has a soup kitchen for dinner in the afternoon from around 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.? If so, call Mail Call."

"I am a 1989 graduate of South High and I was wondering if they were planning on having a 15-year reunion. If you know, leave your name and number in Mail Call."
