Woman assaulted, has purse stolen

FREDERICK, Md. - A 26-year-old woman told police she was assaulted and robbed Saturday in the 100 block of West Second Street, the Frederick Police Department said.

Police said officers responded to the scene at 9:54 p.m., after the woman reported a man pulled her purse off her arm and hit her in the face with a hard object.

The man was described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds and wearing a dark plaid shirt and black pants, police said. Police said he ran toward Baker Park.

CD players, generator are reported stolen

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police at Chambersburg said the following thefts were reported between Saturday and Monday in the Chambersburg area:

  • Six compact disc players, valued at $1,500, were taken from several vehicles in the 1900 block of Philadelphia Avenue.

  • A Honda generator, valued at $1,200, was taken from the Blue Ridge Landfill. The generator belonged to National Earth Services of Lancaster, Pa.

Seven in apartment face drug charges

FREDERICK, Md. - Seven people in a Frederick apartment were arrested and two others were arrested in the 100 block of Hope Circle by the Frederick Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit on Thursday.

Police alleged that an undercover officer purchased crack cocaine and saw several others smoking crack cocaine inside 191 W. All Saints St., Apt. 7, just before 11 p.m. Police said cash, crack cocaine, marijuana and various pieces of drug paraphernalia were found inside the apartment.

Police listed those arrested and the charges against them:

  • Lorenzo S. Smith, 29, of Suitland, Md. - distribution of crack cocaine, two counts.

  • Charles W. Whiten, 51, of 191 W. All Saints St., Apt 7 - distribution of crack cocaine, two counts.

  • James R. Rollins, 20, of the 200 block of Madison St. in Frederick - conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

  • Godfrey T. Weedon, 41, of the 100 block of McMurray St. in Frederick - conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

  • Lillian E. Ferguson, 46, of the 6000 block of Mountaindale Road in Frederick - possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

  • Anthalene B. Diggs, 33, of the 500 block of BeeBe Court in Frederick - possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

  • Charlotte E. Mbaye, 41, of the first block of W. Fifth St. in Frederick - possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Police said the unit arrested two others on drug charges at approximately 7:21 p.m., after undercover officers purchased crack cocaine from a woman.

Samantha E. Naylor, 36, of the 100 block of Hope Circle, in Frederick, was charged with possession, possession with intent to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine, police said.

Shane R. Stewart, 26, of the 1300 block of David Lane in Frederick, Md., was charged with trespassing and possession of marijuana in connection with operations in that area, police said.

Cash, jewelry stolen from area home

The Washington County Sheriff's Department received the following calls over the weekend:

  • On Saturday at 3:30 a.m., $25,000 in cash and 30 pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from a residence in the 12100 block of Hopewell Road. The incident was reported as a theft, not a breaking and entering, police said. The jewelry, which was not described, was valued at $10,000.

  • On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., a yard, a fence and a windmill were reported damaged at a residence in the 11700 block of Mapleville Road. The damage was estimated at $200.

  • On Sunday at 3:30 p.m., an air compressor, a TV and a four-wheeler were reported stolen in the 100 block of Hump Road outside Hagerstown. There was no estimate of the items' value.

Van driver charged with drunken driving

SMITHSBURG - The driver of a van that veered off Crystal Falls Drive early Sunday was charged with drunken driving, Smithsburg Police said.

John Patrick McKnight III, 29, of 124 Sentry Ridge, Smithsburg, was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol and negligent driving.

Police said a 1997 Plymouth van went off Crystal Falls Drive south of Bishop Lane in Smithsburg at around 12:05 a.m. Sunday.

The van went off the left side of the road and hit a traffic control device, a guardrail, trees and a pole, police said.

The driver was not there, but returned a short time later, police said. He was not injured, police said.

Man charged with disorderly conduct

SMITHSBURG - A Chewsville man was charged with disorderly conduct Sunday morning after a man was seen urinating in public, Smithsburg Police said.

Steven Rocco Saccone Jr., 28, of 21131 Twin Springs Drive, was charged and released, police said.

Police said they responded to a call of a disturbance on Washington Court in Smithsburg at about 3 a.m.

While officers talked to residents, Saccone was seen urinating in front of some homes, police alleged.

When confronted by an officer, he yelled profanities, police alleged.
