Try telecommuting

March 15, 2004|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

Federal government agencies curious about telecommuting can try it at no charge for up to 60 days.

The deadline to use the free time is May 31, which means an agency must sign up by March 31, said Nieltje Gedney, the director of the Jefferson County Telecenter in Ranson, W.Va., which is known as BizTech.

An agency still may sign up after March 31, but will only have until May 31 to complete the trial.

For more information, call BizTech at 304-728-2500, Hagerstown Telework Center at 301-745-5600 or Frederick Telework Center at 301-698-2700.

Open houses will be held at the Hagerstown Telework Center and BizTech on March 19 from noon to 4 p.m.

For a full list of the 16 regional centers and future open house dates, go to the Washington Metropolitan Telework Centers' Web site at www.wmtc.org.

The U.S. General Services Administration and the Office of Personnel Management jointly have created a Web site explaining telecommuting, or telework, at www.telework.gov.
