Hewitt 14th at Nike meet

LANDOVER, Md. - Williams-port senior Devin Hewitt placed 14th overall in the boys 800-meter run at the Nike Indoor Championships on Sunday at Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

Hewitt, who won Maryland 2A-1A state titles last month in the 3,200 and 3,200 relay, finished second in his heat in 1 minute, 59.68 seconds. Michael Carmody of Berkeley Heights, N.J., won the overall title in 1:53.84.

Chambersburg senior Kylee Schuler finished 22nd in the girls 2 mile in 11:22.66. Laura Cummings of Bay Shore, N.Y., won the event in 10:38.79.

Middletown senior Boris Roslov, who placed third in the boys pentathlon Saturday, was 20th in the long jump (19 feet, 8 1/4 inches) and didn't clear the opening height in the high jump. Felipe Reyes of Albany, N.Y., won the long jump in 24-1 3/4, while Scott Sellers of Katy, Texas, won the high jump in 7-5 1/4.



Sussex (N.J.) 6, HCC 3

La PLATA, Md. - Amanda McGhee went 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs scored for Hagerstown Community College, which jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings.

But Sussex (N.J.) scored five in the sixth and one in the seventh to top the Hawks (3-3) in the quarterfinals of the Southern Maryland Tournament.


Legion baseball registration

Registration for the 2004 Funkstown Legion, Funkstown Junior Legion and Williamsport Junior Legion teams will be held Saturday from 8-11 a.m., Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and March 28 from 1-4 p.m. at Funkstown Post 211.

Junior legion players must be 13 years old and not turn 17 before Aug. 1. Legion players must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 1985. All players must bring a copy of their birth certificate from the health department or bureau of vital statistics, not a hospital certificate.

Softball leagues seek teams

The Hub City Morning Softball League is seeking teams for the 2004 season. The league's 24-game regular season begins in May and is followed by a postseason tournament.
