Man charged with robbery

March 14, 2004

A Hagerstown man was charged Saturday in connection with the Thursday robbery of Fidelity Bank on Virginia Avenue in Halfway, Maryland State Police in Hagerstown said.

Jerry Lee Jenkins, 30, was charged with robbery, theft over $500, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, police said.

Police went to 645 Oak Hill Ave. early Saturday to execute an arrest warrant on Jenkins, police said. Police said they found Jenkins trying to hide under a bed at the residence.

Police said Jenkins used a note to demand money from a bank teller at Fidelity Bank at 17708 Virginia Ave. about 1 p.m. Thursday. He then left the bank on foot, police said.

State police Sgt. Mike Hegedus said Thursday that no weapon was brandished during the robbery. He declined to release specifics of the note, including whether or not the man claimed to have a weapon.
