HAGERSTOWN - As the application deadline nears, the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce has dozens of applicants for a successor to President Fred K. Teeter Jr.

Teeter announced in January that he was stepping down to work at his wife's growing international health and wellness company.

Chamber Chairman Tim Henry said that as of last week the Search Committee had approximately 25 applicants.

Chamber officials hope to have the position filled by July 1. Teeter's last day is April 30.

Teeter said he offered to work for the chamber on an as-needed basis during the interim period.

Henry said he hopes to have a plan for the interim period formed by the end of March.

"In fairness to Fred, he's moving on to another job. (We) appreciate his offer, but hate to bog him down," Henry said.

The deadline to apply for the executive post is March 15, Henry said.

Through the chamber's Web site at, applicants have an opportunity to complete an online questionnaire to get an idea of whether they fit the job requirements, Teeter said.

Mac users have been having problems accessing the questionnaire, so it's best to try completing the questionnaire from a personal computer, Teeter said.

The chamber is looking for an experienced executive with a four-year degree who must live in Washington County or within a 25-mile radius of Hagerstown, according to the chamber's Web site.
