Council to host Tutor Appreciation Day


Literacy Council of Washington County will host a Tutor Appreciation Day Saturday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, at Trinity Lutheran Church on the corner of North Potomac and Randolph Avenue in Hagerstown.

Small group and large group discussions in the morning will be followed by a noon luncheon.

Reservations by Friday are necessary for the luncheon and may be made with Bill Price at 301-739-4208 between 8:30 a.m. and noon, Thursday and Friday.

The guest speaker will be Dolores Howell of Boyds, Maryland, author of "Stand Straight and Grow Tall." Howell graduated from a high school in Cumberland, Md., unable to read.

The Literacy Council will hold its next workshop May 15 and 22. Prospective tutors may call Price at the above number to register.

City to hold Thursday Night Out On Town


Downtown Hagerstown's Thursday Night Out On The Town promotion will be held Thursday.

The promotion includes discounts and specials at retail shops as well as free parking along the street, on surface lots, and in the North Potomac Parking Deck.
