Woman hurt after fall from C&O Canal bridge

SANDY HOOK - A woman who fell more than 15 feet from a foot bridge along the C&O Canal towpath near Sandy Hook and Keep Tryst roads Saturday night was complaining of back pain and trouble breathing, according to rescuers.

The call came in shortly after 9 p.m. and resulted in fire and rescue units from Washington County, Frederick County, Md., and Jefferson County, W.Va., responding to the scene.

A Maryland State Police helicopter sent to the scene to transport the woman to a hospital landed near a residence on Sandy Hook Road around 9:45 p.m., rescuers said.

The identity and condition of the woman, believed to be 23 years old, was unavailable Saturday night.
