Roundup - Lions cruise into 2A West title game

ELDERSBURG, Md. - Brock McCollum had 24 points and eight rebounds as Walkersville advanced to the Maryland 2A West region final with a 72-46 win over Liberty on Thursday night.

After playing to a 24-24 tie at halftime, Walkersville (20-4) dominated in the second half to notch the win.

Luther Weedon had 17 points and Chris Hannigan added 12 points and six rebounds for the Lions. Dave Berry had seven assists.

Josh Vittek had 13 points and Andrew Martin added 12 for Liberty (15-10).

Lake Clifton 59, T. Johnson 47

BALTIMORE - Colby Jackson scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, but Thomas Johnson fell to Lake Clifton in the Class 4A North semifinals.

Clinton Jones grabbed seven boards and Drew Gaeng had four assists for the Patriots (20-4).


A.-Broaddus 85, Shepherd 72

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Stephen Dye scored 19 of his 27 points in the final 14 minutes to lift Alderson-Broaddus past Shepherd in the West Virginia Conference quarterfinals.


Danley Shank scored 22 points and Mark Jennings had 21 for Shepherd (17-11).


HCC 73, Harford 64

McHENRY, Md. - Hagerstown Community College defeated Harford in the first round of the Region XX Tournament at Garrett Community College.

Eariel Gholson led the Hawks with 28 points, while Alicia Romaro had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Dee Brown added seven assists.

HCC (16-13) will play top-seed Potomac State today.

W.Va. State 80, Shepherd 69

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Carmella Suggs had 22 points to lead West Virginia State past Shepherd in Wednesday's West Virginia Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

Gaynell Reese led the Rams (18-11) with 15 points. Ashley van Norden, a Williamsport graduate, and LaToya Fisher both added 14 points and Lindsay Stewart had 10.


Maryland Express tryouts

Spring tryouts for the under-12 and under-14 Maryland Express girls softball teams will be held March 13th and 20th from 8-11:30 a.m. Attendance at both days is encouraged. Players should bring all equipment and arrive early.
