SMITHSBURG - During the month of February, the Smithsburg Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to 95 calls for service with the busiest day of the month occurring on Saturday, Feb. 28, with seven emergency calls.
Of the 95 calls for February, nine were to Frederick County and two were in Franklin County, Pa.
Twenty calls were inside Smithsburg town limits, while another six calls were in the Mount Aetna area, eight in Cascade and 16 were to the Leitersburg area.
The most common call types were for medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, and falls, which accounted for a total of 35 calls.
Personnel transported a total of 59 patients to area hospitals.
The department also responded to nine calls in the Hagerstown area, and assisted on 12 fire-related calls.
Capt. James Ulrich said the total calls for 2004 so far is 203.
