GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A Maryland man was killed Monday afternoon in a one-car crash on Filer Road in Antrim Township, Pa., Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said.

Eric Alan Packheiser, 47, of 5 Holly Road, Pasadena, Md., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was called in at 3:54 p.m.

Conner said Packheiser died of blunt force multiple trauma.

Packheiser was driving west on Filer Road when his 1989 Pontiac Trans Am went off the north side of the road and struck a large tree, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release. The car went down an embankment and into a farm field after hitting the tree, police said.

Conner said the man was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the car.

A passing motorist drove by the scene and called 911, Conner said.

Police were investigating the accident. The crash occurred about 200 yards east of the Worleytown Road intersection and Filer Road was closed down at both ends while police investigated and the car was removed.

In the isolated areas where the accident occurred, the road is relatively straight and level and there was no ice on the road surface.

Conner said the cause of the crash was undetermined and no autopsy would be performed.
